Episode 4
That same evening, grandmother hosts an evening gala at home for her grandsons. Rufus and Daniel are called to the center of the party, each of them are praised for their smarts and being as capable as their father. Rufus likes business, whereas Daniel's field is photography.
The Edwards empire owns a renowned magazine company, and each son is very much capable in their fields..
“ Thanks for attending”.
“ …. But you're late!”. Grandmother reprimanded me at the spot.
She warned me against coming late at any family event in the future. I am annoyed by her words, yet did nothing about it.
“ I'm sorry, grandmother”. I slightly lower my head.
Out of nowhere, a hand was placed on my shoulder and I turned, shocked by who it was. It is my husband.
“ Good evening, grandmother”.
Rufus placed his hand on my shoulder, pulling me away from his grandmother.
“ Son, you're also late”. She said, anger in her voice.
“ I'm sorry, something happened “.
He replied.
Not long enough, Daniel comes and they are all taken away once again to greet their parents' business officials.
Maid Anita met me alone at my table, and placed a glass of wine in front of me. She grinned awkwardly and walked to the table beside me.
The couples there were holding hands and generously tipped the maid. Anita smiles at them and walks to the next table after their own.
I watch my husband and his brother greet the guests that just arrived. Rufus was made to stand next to his annoying, evil brother, smiling so much as they both worked hand in hand.
Hours later, he returned to me. He exhales sharply, hands shaking as he grabs my glass of wine on the table, drinking from the same glass..
“ I'm sorry for everything”.
He lowered his head and admitted guilt..
“ It's okay, you have your responsibility”’’
I respond back, smiling widely..
“ I know,”
“….. but I'm sorry, okay?”.
He leans forward, placing a kiss onto my forehead.
His kisses are always warm and comforting
I notice Daniel walking to the bar alone. He signals the bartender and a glass of wine is brought before him. Daniel tips off the bartender and walks away, I watch him carefully as he navigates toward the servants quarters.
Why is he heading there?
He looks twice, eyes filled with nothing less than deception. Whatever he's going to do there, won't be anything good.
Something is wrong
Follow him!
While Rufus wasn't looking, I followed his brother. The servants quarters are meant for only the maids working in the mansion. So, what's the master's son doing here?..
Daniel stops at a room. He looks sideways, then enters inside. I wondered, whose room did he just gain access to? I carefully looked before navigating closer to the door. I lean my ear against the door, quietly listening to my brother-in-law talking so friendly with someone in the room.
“ Baby, I've missed you”.
I heard Daniel talk. He laughs, and I hear footsteps approaching towards him.
“Do you really miss me? Because I've been seeing you stare at your brother's wife”.
I listened to her talk, jealously in her voice as she complained.
“ What?”.
“…… stare at Sarah?”
“ No way”. He laughs, snorting..
“ I have seen you look at her”
“ Do you like Miss Sarah?”.
The lady asked him again..
Who's he talking to?.
The female voice in the room sounded familiar. It did not feel like a stranger talking, more or less, someone I've spoken with before..
I leaned my ear closer to listen, but my hands accidently hit the vase beside the door. It broke, scattering on the floor. I hear footsteps approaching the door, and hide immediately behind the goblin statue behind the room..
The door pushed open as I slowly brought out my hand to check. Daniel steps outside, he finds the broken vase on the ground and cautiously looks around. I made sure to hide the remaining part of my body well, but my eyes were still looking, itching to know the identity of the lady in the room with him..
Reveal yourself
Soon my eyes expanded in shock when I saw the maid, Anita, step outside and hug Daniel from behind.
But he pulls her away, warning her from doing anything stupid in front of anyone..
Are they dating or not?
Anita apologies and Daniel angrily leaves. The vase breaking must’ve triggered his defensive mood.
I returned to the party afterwards, pretending like nothing happened. I am calling upon my grandmother to speak on the family's behalf.
What exactly does this old woman want me to say?
“ What do I say to your guests?”.
I lean closer and whisper to my husband..
“ Anything, just complement the entire family”
“ ….. you're one of us now, remember?”.
He whispered back, grinning back at the crowd and grandmother, who was slowly losing her temper.
What do I tell these guests?
“Ladies and gentlemen”
“ …… we from the Edwards family, thank you for coming to our gala “.
I started by complementing my in-laws, their business and enduring everyone that attended the gala held by our grandmother of the Edward household was surely praised.
Grandmother smiles, her countenance proves that I wasn't just talking, it resonated with her.
After my speech, everyone clapped for me. My husband rushes over, giving me a huge kiss on my forehead. The guests all exclaimed lovingly at the scene. I smile and proudly hold my husband's hands. But my eyes slowly whiskered and surprisingly caught on my brother-in-law..
He throws a kiss at me from the crowd.
The bastard, who shamelessly went to come after his brother's wife, is also dating someone in the same house.
A lowly maid.
He must've trapped and lied to her.
Perhaps, is their relationship genuine?.
After the party, grandmother makes all of us wait behind for a toast. She made maid Anita, gave each of us a glass and we raised them above our heads.
“ To our loving family”.
She said, raising hers too..
“ Yes, to my wife, mom and brother”
Rufus joined her
“ Yes…..”
“ And to my brother also and his beautiful wife, Sarah”.
Daniel commented after his brother, putting on a stupid grin on his face
What a lying cheating asshole!
